Rhoda Mundi is a Professor of Geography with specialization in Population and Development. She holds the following degrees- B.A.(Hons) Geography (ABU), MSc Population and Manpower Planning (Uni. Jos), PhD Geography (Population, Women and Development) (ABU) and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Education (Uni. Abuja).
She started her career as a Teacher at Government College, Kaduna for a few months in 1991 and College of Education, Kafanchan (1992-93). She joined the services of the University of Abuja as an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Geography in 1993. She became Lecturer II in 1995, Lecturer I in 1998, Senior Lecturer in 2001, Associate Professor in 2004 and a full Professor of Geography in 2007.
She was Head of Department, Geography in 2003-2004, Programme officer and later Ag. Director, Centre for Gender Security Studies and Youth Advancement from 2005-2011 and Dean, Faculty of Social Science, 2014-2018. She was a Member, Census Tribunal covering the North East and South East geo-political zones of Nigeria.
Rhoda Mundi has served on a number of International and National organisations as consultant including United Nation’s Population Fund (UNFPA), United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), United Nation’s Development Fund (UNDP), National Population Commission (NPopC), National Planning Commission (NPC) and Federal Ministry of Environment (FME).
Her research efforts centre on development issues surrounding women, youths, adolescents, HIV/AIDS and the environment. She has over 50 publications, technical reports, research reports and conference papers.
She is a member of Association of Nigerian Geographers (ANG), member, Association of American Geographers (AAG), President, Population Association of Nigeria (PAN) and member, National Association of Women Academics (NAWACS).
Professor Mundi is a recipient of 2016 TETFund National Research Fund (NRF) where her team is currently carrying out a research on ‘Childhood Diseases Mapping in Northern Nigeria’. Her Co-researchers include Dr. Panse Samuel Dakyes, Dr. Sunday Ishaya, Mrs Mercy Adenyuma (all of Department of Geography & Environment. Management, University of Abuja), Dr B.B. Nwankwo, Department of Community Medicine, UniAbuja and Dr S. Yohanna, Bingham University, Karu.
Miss Grace Maisamari, Department of Sociology, University of Abuja, was supposed to be a member, but was snatched by the cold hands of death.
